Attached is Section 1 of the Fall 2009 MD H2E Sustainable Food Newsletter, which is a Special “Buy Local” Report about the hospitals that participated in the Buy Local Challenge this Summer. We have divided this newsletter into 5 sections since we received stories and pictures from so many of the 27 hospitals & nursing homes that participated (an updated number from the previous 25).

We will send out the remaining 4 sections over the next few weeks so that it’s in smaller segments that you’ll have time to read.  In the end, we will compile it as 1 online report which you can share with others. We begin with an overview of the activities and some highlights from several of the hospitals (see attached).

Attached is Section 4 of the ‘Buy Local’ Report of the MD H2E Sustainable Food Newsletter.

This section continues to highlight those hospitals that participated in the 2009 Buy Local Challenge by
purchasing and serving local foods, engaging their employees in eating at least one local food each day
for a week, and hosting onsite farmers’ markets.

The hospitals that are highlighted in this newsletter include:
