The only geothermal hospital system in Illinois, the largest in the country, is seeing savings as a result of its unique source of heating and cooling. According to a recent article in Chicago’s Daily Herald, Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Ill., uses 185 miles of piping to pull heat from a 15-acre lake into the hospital. Already the hospital reports annual fuel savings of more than the expected $1 million.
